Tweed is a Palm Pre Twitter client developed by Pivotal Labs, a California based software consulting firm.

The application is easy to install and to easily add an account or multiple accounts to the program. It allows you to set one account as your primary/default account which will automatically be opened upon launch of the program. When accessing other twitter accounts, a relatively simple process, you can go to the main menu and select open account and finally click on the desired account. This will then open the account selected. Tweets are displayed very quickly and the loading/startup time are very short. It displays a timeline of tweets and each tweet can be clicked on, bringing up an option to favorite the tweet, reply to the tweet directly, retweet, or mark the spot of the tweet in the timeline. Selecting a particular person allows you to view the tweets made by that particular person and also allow you t osend a message to the person directly.

Tweeting
There is a speech bubble at the bottom of the program which allows users to send tweets, there is a character counter to show you exactly how many words you have and to make sure that you do not pass 140 words, which is a major plus. To have people know exactly where you are, a small click on the insert location icon will send a tweet with your exact gps position, an excellent addition but one thinks how often will such a feature be used. Messages are sent quickly and overall it is excellent in terms of sending and recieving messages or tweets.

Shorten Url Feature
There is a feature on the tweed application which allows the user to shorten url’s over 30 characters, though it should be able to shorten all url’s regardless of the size for a perfect rating so this dimishes a little from its performance for me. The application is also not very intuitive and only shortens url’s that begin with the ‘http://’, which again dimishes a little from it being a perfect feature but it is a useful one neverheless.

Timeline
The timeline of tweets refreshed every 3 seconds automatically which seems very fast and allowed me to keep up with most major twitter conversations without missing a beat. There is also a manual refresh button to enable users to determine when they would want the page refreshed and also contains a divider which separates old and new messages.

There is also a background tweet feature which allows you to be notified whee you have a new message and the program is running in the background. This can be good or bad depending on how many followers that you have though, as people with a lot of folowers might be updates many times throughout the day and becomes very annoying very quickly. This feature can be turned off though and is highly functional.

Conclusion
This is a fantastic program and should be downloaded immediately by all Palm Pre owners who want to use twitter on their mobile phones.

Palm’s second phone to run webOS will finally become available from Sprint (NYSE: S) starting on November 15. The Palm Pixi features a touch screen, full QWERTY keyboard, and an attractive $100 price point.

If the Palm Pre, its first webOS device, wasn’t your cup of tea, the new Palm Pixi offers an alternative. It is a candybar-style phone and is obviously a replacement product for the popular Palm Centro.

The Pixi is a valiant second effort from Palm. Palm has taken webOS a few steps further and will be including a native Facebook application on the Pixi. It also has a few other new applications, such as iLike, an app that helps find information about concerts, buy tickets, invite friends and add the concerts to your calendar.

The hardware itself carries forward the design language seen on the Pre. In order to fit into such a small package, Palm had to make a few concessions. It loses Wi-Fi (boo!), and slows down the processor a bit. It also reduces the camera from 3.2 megapixels to just 2. The camera still manages to take fast pictures, though.

The Pixi is amazingly small. It is set to land in Sprint stores on November 15 for the low price of $100. Of course, that’s after an “instant $50 rebate” and after a snail-mail-in $100 dollar rebate. Customers are going to pay $200 out of pocket for the phone at the store and wait for that $100 rebate to come back several weeks later.

The user interface seems to be a little better than the “Where” application but where has a little more categories as you’ll notice. When it comes to food this application doesn’t rank with the Goodfood application which I highly rate. You can search from within all screens and also there are user reviews available within this application. Overall this is a great Palm Pre application and hope to see some more of it’s type in the next coming months.

London - Palm Pre, the latest smartphone from Palm Inc., is selling very well in the UK where it was launched last week and threatens to upstage Apple Inc.’s iconic iPhone as the most-wanted handset in the soon-to-come holiday season. But who’s the real winner?

According to an O2 spokesperson, people are buying more Palm Pre than all other devices (including the iPhone 3GS) combined, though some analysts claim that the latest iPhone is selling at least five times more than Pre.

The intense competition between iPhone and Palm Pre has also piqued the media’s interest, which wasted no time in dubbing Palm Pre’s launch as “finally a REAL iPhone killer has arrived.”

But, what is it that makes Palm Pre so hot, so “much-wanted” and so “iPhone killer”?

First, let us do away with the similarities.

Both the phones are nearly similar in shape and size and weight, comes with quad-band, EDGE/GSM, 3G/HSDPA support at up to 3.6Mbit/s, Bluetooth, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi for internet access, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Both have Bluetooth support for wireless headsets and boast of a similar sized multitouch screen display (iPhone’s is a wee bit bigger) with 320 x 480 resolution that allows you to pinch, flick and swirl your fingers across the touchpad for intuitive navigation. It also allows users to scroll, zoom in and out and flip through web pages, photos, spreadsheets and more.

Both have GPS capability for location-based services, such as the built-in Google Maps, and an accelerometer that senses if you rotate the device and changes the display to match.

Like iPhone, Palm Pre tops in form factor and has minimal keys on the outside as it focuses more on touchscreen experience. On the left side, it has volume up/down buttons, and a mute switch on the top, next to the on/off button while on the right side, it has a small flap covering the microUSB connector, and a single centre button is located beneath the screen.

And, both are priced in the UK nearly the same. Though Palm Pre isn’t currently available on PAYG yet, but it is available at O2 stores (Palm Pre is also available at Carphone Warehouse, Phones4U, and other O2 partners) in the UK on five differing contracts which see the 18 month plans coming in at £44.05 (1200 mins talktime, 500 texts, unlimited net access) and £73.41 (3000 mins talktime, 500 texts, unlimited net access), as well as the 24 month £34.26 plan (600 mins talktime, 500 texts, unlimited net access) giving you the Palm Pre for “free” while the 18 month £29.38 and £34.26 plans (75/125 and 600/500 talktime/texts respectively) will see you coughing up some £97 extra in order to secure the smartphone. Definitely not the best of tariff deals, but, unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about that.

It is a form of sortition that by nature typically has only two possible outcomes. And Now you can just flip the coin on your Palm Pre.

The CoinFlip Palm Pre App by Inspiring Apps does pretty much what the title says. If you ever find yourself needing to flip a coin for a decision and do not have one on you this app can help. To flip the coin on the display screen use your finger to tap on the coin on the display screen and it will flip. When you will try this, coin does land on heads or tails randomly.

Overall, this is a great, simple app with realistic animations. You can say CoinFlip Palm Pre App gets a Thumbs Up.

The WikiHow application for the Palm Pre offers the perfect graphics as expected from a Palm Pre applications. The screens are mostly colored with black and grey backgrounds and the icons are large enough to be finger friendly. The fonts used to display information are also bold enough for easy reading, but not extravagant enough to seem “crowded.”

The application features a search bar that can be found easily on the interface under the same drop down as “survival kit” and a browse feature, although the browse feature is only really good if you’re just looking around for new hobby tasks to complete in certain subjects and not specific tasks considering there are over 60,000 possible matches.

You’ll also notice that the WikiHow Application offers the included pictures for each article, those photos can then be “zoomed” in for closer looks, which definitely helps if you need to see the photo more closely to determine how to perform a specific step. You’ll also notice the “Open in Web Browser” option which opens the mobile formatted article directly into your Palm Pre web browser for full viewing. You’ll also notice the “Share” button which launches a “check this out” type response with a link to your how to article. Since the share option utilizes the built in email application on the device it’s extremely easy to share your findings with friends.

Finally, if you encounter any YouTube videos in your guides and you click on those videos the application automatically opens a new card with that video on your Palm Pre, making it simple to watch videos with your full screen size, while still keeping the original how-to-guide in the open state.

Overall its a marvellous app and the screens are well thought out. The ability to share information and launch YouTube videos is strong and bookmarking and web launch features are good enough to operate smoothly. Once the search function is added this will be a must have app. Download it to get use to the application, but wait for the search function to really get into the app.

If you haven’t received it already, Palm WebOS 1.2 will arrive as an over-the-air update to your smartphone over the next few days. Notable additions include the integration of LinkedIn contacts, the capability to download songs from the Amazon MP3 Store over a 3G connection in addition to Wi-Fi, and cut and paste for Web pages and e-mails.

Other highlights include being able to search within e-mail folders, download files from the Web browser, and the capability to pause podcasts. We’re still awaiting the arrival of prepaid apps, but it looks we’re getting closer since you can now store credit card information on your Palm profile so you can purchase apps in the future.

For a full list of included updates with Palm WebOS 1.2, check out Palm’s support site. Most notably absent from this update, however, is any mention of a fix to the iTunes synchronization, which was broken by iTunes 9.0. We’re still waiting for the WebOS 1.2 to arrive on our Palm Pre, but let us know if the media syncing is still truly disabled and share your experience with the update in the comments below.
